[Sinkholes] creating a google map pinpointing all of them for 2012.

During the exchanges about the22th Jully 2012 transcriptthe surprise about the increasing number of sinkholes was shared and the idea about creating a customized google map showing all of them on earth came up.

This post now have 2 objectives:

1 - limitation of the noise on the transcript which is not all about that matter.

2 - collecting the data in order to fulfill that map.

If you are willing to participate, be precise as possible in order to get it the more clean and readable as possible. About that last part, every ideas are of course most welcome, I'm not used at all with that tool in the first place ;)

Hi Ekios,
Hereis the link to my map. Combine it with yours by downloading it as a .kml file and then use the "Import" button on your map.

(Thank goodness there are no overlaps, since I did mostly America and you did mostly Europe.)

Also, could you please add me as a "Collaborator"? This is so that others can add placemarks to your map.

Thing is it would be nice to have the list of points to add posted here, with a small English description as Date/Depth/Diameter and the link. I had the hell of a time with Germany and Google Translate :D

If it is in English or in French it ain't no problem for me, but the other languages would be problematic.

Wonderful! Thank you all for this data collect, I tried for France, but it does not really happened a lot here regarding sinkholes, or the information is not relayed inside the Web... For what I saw. :D

I can only find one recent report of a sinkhole here in Australia at Inskip, Queensland. This one is right on the beach so I'm not sure if it's the type of thing that you're looking for. It's quite a large one though - apparently 100 meters across.

Laura, It is already quite "visible" for the USA. I miss time right now to to some serious digging inside SOTT news, but the other countries will be add soon, and we will be able to have something even more "global" :)

Edit for another question : we are yet focusing on 2012 but I can find some sinkholes in 2011 in France and Canada, do WE add them or do WE decide to focus only on 2012 ?
